Kalpetta is a major town and a municipality in the Wayanad district, state of Kerala, India. It is the headquarters of the Wayanad district as well as the headquarters of Vythiri taluk. It is a bustling town surrounded by mountains and lush greenery and plantations.Kalpetta village is situated almost the central part of wayanad district. It is surrounded by Kottathara Village in the North, Muttil South, thrikkaippata village in the East, Kottappadi, Chunda Village in the South, Vengappalli village in the West . It lies on the Kozhikode-Mysore National Highway NH 766 (formerly NH 212) at an altitude of about 780 m above sea level. Kalpetta is 72 km from Kozhikode and 140 km from Mysore. Kalpetta Is The Major Trading Centre in the District. Civil Station and many other district offices are situated in this village.
As of 2011 India census,Kalpetta had a population of 31,580. Males constitute 49% of the population and females 51%. In Kalpetta, 11% of the population is under the age of 6. Considering the socio-economic, The wayanad diary of MILMA is situated at chuzhali in Kalpetta village. There is a Mini Industries Park promoted by KINFRA at Vellaramkunnu in Kalpetta village. Tourism and hospitality industry is booming in Kalpetta. Also, Kalpetta is one of the major trade centres for agricultural produces. 18 VFPCK markets are there to collect and trade vegetables and fruits from farmers.
